My DD enjoys making jewelry and it seems to be a hobby she would like to pursue. My cousin does this and suggestd 2-3 basic tools that she should have but I don't remember what they were. Anyone here who does this, what basic tools would you recommend starting out with. I'm assuming some sort of pliers but which would be the most important.

Thanks

needle nose pliers to make a loop in the wire
flat nose pliers to crimp down
a second pair of flat nose wire so that you can hold things and twist with both hands
wire cutters
The wire that goes through your ear should be real sterling (expensive) but other wire can be cheaper
The cheaper wire can be copper that comes in copper color of course but also other pretty colors.
Pretty beads ! I use about 90% cheap beads and 10 percent more expensive silver beads, but that is personal opinion.

Are you asking because your putting together a Christmas present for her? Another nice present would be to sign her up for a class. There is no better way to learn than to have the attention of a good teacher. I took my class with one teacher and 5 students so we had good 1 to 1 attention.

Some people like to work with stones. Go to eBay and look up "agate" and "Jasper" beads. If you want to get fancy look up "crazy lace agate". There are some lovely stone beads that already have a hole drilled in them. You can get these in the range of $4 to $8 for a good size focal point bead. You know what I'm talking about? The largest bead on the necklace, the one that should be eye catching. There are also glass beads that are beautiful too.
