I need some coaching. I have just been asked to pray about serving as the assistant pastor at my local church. God has been whispering this calling on my life for years. In short, I simply run out of places to run and holes to hide. As I prepare to answer the call, I have to admittedly admit that I SCARED! I wish I had some one on one godly counsel regarding my pending role -- I need to talk with some who has been there and done that successfully according to God's definition.

I also looking for resources to support my role...books, websites, conferences, etc. My giftings include prophecy, singing, writing, praying, speaking, teaching, coaching, etc. Any godly advice is welcome!!!!!

Hello there, Christopher!

Congratulations on your new found responsibility! I certainly hope it brings much joy and enlightenment into your life, as well as others.

As for resources, the kind of materials you want would be based on how you would like to teach your faith. Will you and your pastor be dealing with youth classes? If so, I recommend finding Biblical booklets that focus on certain passages and ask questions about how those passages relate to your life. A really good resource that provides short films to exemplify such passages can be found here: http://spiritclips.com/materials. All you have to do is register your email, and they'll send you an ID to access the films and teaching guides. It's pretty easy.

Otherwise, consult your church. I'm sure they have a breadth of resources. Also, if you look online, I'm positive there are a bunch of Faith Conventions that happen year around. These are great places to find out what the latest religious educational tools are available. There was recently one in Nashville, TN, which is how I found out about the resource above.

I hope that helps!

I'm so silly, I forgot to add:

You don't have to pay to watch the films after you register. Once you get your ID, you plug it in, and the site will lead you to the film and study guide library. You get to watch the films and read the samples of the guides for free. Then you can decide which ones you want to order and share with the class if you're interested.

Hm... You know, maybe you can call the organizer of the last Nashville convention. I bet she has a list of all her guests! You can do research on them and figure out what resources work best for you! Let me know if you want the information!

Wonderful! Thank you so much for the suggestion. I need all the help I can get. If you think of anything later, please share. I appreciate you and may God bless you richly.

unfortunately, the "ministry leadership" conference at our church was just this past October, and you missed it!....but, check back for next years's!
it's a conference for pastors, and all kinds of ministers and ministry leaders....

http://www.engageconference.org/

Be sure to check out the "schedule" page...and see all the different types of "breakout sessions" they had....

To me, being scared or in doubt can work as comfirmation that i have chosen the right path.

I usually find those fellings when i follow Gods word and calling in a straight forward way, doing what is right. To me that means that satan gets upset, Gods word is being followed and that's not what he wants, so he sends doubt, fear and other trials to me.

Turning to God in prayer, putting on the armour of light and fighting what eh sends is the only way through.

My mentor told me about another student that came to him, explaining how he was no longer in doubt, how he felt that he could do what the church wanted from him without hesitation. My mentor told hom to get another career...

If we feel confident in ourselves and look to our own strength and wisdom to do what is expected of us, we open ourselves to satan and in doing so, he no longer needs to try us with fear and doubt.

This is my main feeling about the issue, God does not take back his calling.
However one must always be open to God, and admit when He says it's the wrong thing to do...

Take care!

I'm having a difficult time making a decision that I know needs to be made - without hurting anyone's feeling - I've been at the same church on and off for more than 25 years. However, my church is almost predominantly African American and I am Caucasian. I've been told that if I want to be in a position at this church I will have to go through the same racial issues that the founding minister did 55 years ago and that I'm not strong enough to do that.

But I believe I have a calling I don't believe that god has kept me alive through the child abuse, my mother's suicide, delivered me from alcohol and drug abuse, helped me survive my son's murder just for me to sit around and not be of service to God's glory. I tried the prayer ministry for 6 yrs and let me tell you it was the worst experience in my life - don't get me wrong I loved to pray and speak with the people when but the Asst. Dir.started getting calls asking for me and asking me to pray for the people - she made my life miserable. She yelled and screamed at me in Church and all the pastors would say is that I should just love her and leave her alone.

When my son was murdered I was told that my negative thoughts caused the murder, that I didn't pray right and this was may karma coming back to me for the things I did in my youth.

Well either god is loving and forgiving or He isn't - which one is it. Lately, several ministers as well as friends have told me that they think that I should try looking for a more inter-racial church - however, I want one where the word of God is taught, where there's praise and worship and where I will be able to be a blessing to the Church also - although I lean toward Baptist - it doesn't matter - I just want to be in the right church at the right time - and i don't care what color the minister is - I just want some divine doors to open for me - and there's no sense staying in a place where I've been told the doors will not open for me - over 20 ministers - but not one is of another persuasian; 20 teachers - no one of a different ethnicity; all the workers in the church are of the same race - why can't we be one at least on Sundays - aren't we all God's children - that's why my children found church so hypocritical because they were bi-racial - yet they saw what was going on.

Does anyone know of a Good christian church, will lots of praise and worship, healing services, deliverance services, the word being taught and a diversity of people in the chicago area - and I'm not talking about a church where people are going to sleep - but I church where the move of the holy spirit is there as soon as you walk in the door and the pastor is truly anointed - I'm hungry for a word from God and to be able to use my gifts (especially in writing, speaking and teaching) - although I haven't graduated from any divinity school I did graduate from a master's bible program at my church which entailed taking over 30 classes and have continued to study to show myself approved.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated - God Bles you.

First off, I think you may want to start a thread of your own, this may be hard to find for others.

I have no idea what "the same racial issues" would be that you would have to go through to find yourself approved by your church.
I can tell you that the founding minister of any real Church died about 2000 years ago on a cross.

Sounds like you may need to find a new place of worship. Color should make no difference, God is no respecter of person...

Don't you have any friends, or co workers that attend a different Church?
What about other members of your family?

May God lead you in your search.
