It is my prayer that I can continue to work in this industry for the next 2 decades.
A co-worker lost his wife in February, and he lost his mom this week  I am praying for him!
I am in an industry that is on the lagging edge of technology. That is not always bad. There are old systems that run 24x7x365, and they never get the Microsoft Blue Screen of Death. They never get hacked, they never get viruses.
[If you are in the airport, you do not want to see this:]
However, there are some changes that are good. Network security improvements, accounting efficiency and enhanced reporting/forecasting, faster transaction processing, and so on. And I like improvements that save $$$ 
The best upgrade starts in the heart! Love, patience, mercy, kindness and courtesy are missing in so many workplaces. And we are callesd to be salt and light! I have alot of work to do, so I leave you with this:

We got free club level seats to a MLB evening game this week. I took my family, got to see some co-workers.
I walked the dog, had two lessons with my instructor, put in 101 kicks on the bag, and feel pretty good.

One of the forums is discussing the true nature of toughness in an unarmed combat situation. One of the fighters noted that the ripped and sculpted opponents are not necessarily the most dangerous, at least in the ring. However, the intense training involved in MMA does result in low bodyfat, stronger muscles, and a ripped physique.
Nonetheless, we should never equate what we see in the ring with street defense. We are watching a controlled contest with a referee, sanctioned by NSAC, with timed rounds and numerous rules and 4 oz gloves, as well as the ability to tap out before an arm or a leg is injured.
The world is anything but safe. The Hills are [NOT] always alive with the sound of music.
The enemy does not fight fair, and his followers behave accordingly.
In physical combat, mental toughness and opportunistic thinking will usually win a battle, regardless of the opponents' size or strength.

My nephew and his Army buddies were jumped in Washington by 5 thugs; with more than a year of BJJ training, this fight was over in seconds. Army guys 1, thugs 0.
I was pretty disgusted with my recent weigh-in. I realized that my behavior and my inactivity are inexcusable. God uses the simple things to convict and chastise!

The beginning of a four-day holiday. Lord willing, I can get in a hike at a higher altitude. I am hoping to find a few t-storms this weekend.
Got another vehicle, this one with mileage < 16K. Just a V6, but it is more reliable than my old car (250K in miles).
I am learning to live my life with gratitude for the blessings. Aty the same time, I am concerned about the horrific problems my bro and his wife have with Kaiser's medical staff. Folks, if someone is dying of a neurological disorder, shouldn't we pull out all the stops and try some different treatments??
BTW, here are some interesting side effects of Ambien...

This Sunday, the pastor spoke on the subject of anger--
James 1:19-20:
Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
Proverbs 14:29:
[He that is] slow to wrath [is] of great understanding: but [he that is] hasty of spirit exalteth folly.
Pro 15:1:
A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.
Some folks were asking, "How slow is slow?"
Now, I tend to agree with my teacher's philosophy: There is a difference between reaction and response. This is often the difference between the peace officer/soldier and the civilian with no training in a dangerous situation. Responses are developed through training and repetition. Reactions take no training; the one without self control will react, and will bring misery.
I am thankful that our God is longusffering toward us:
Exodus 34:5-8:

I spent my day in the wine country. Traffic thru Napa was horrible. This was not a leisure drive, as our remote office lost its DSL connection. The fall colors and the cool evening weather is nice. Didn't get to see any of the college games, but I had a great drive...

A wild storm came thru and knocked out the broadband connections for 25 of our stores. This was an OSPF issue (duplicate IP) that affected multiple customers in the state.
I am looking at setting up a Hot Spot at our truck stop this year; I also need to make sure our offsite Management Planning meeting is set up. In another 10 days, I will be involved in setting up another store network near Clear Lake.

We spent 3 days setting up a new store, and it took alot of work to clean up. Hard to believe that this store had an ice cream shop inside.

Our company has re-iterated the policy for our work environment, based on the HR policy of Pinnacle Software. Here is a sampling:
1) Always show respect.
2) Be quick to listen, and slow to speak.
3) Agree to disagree--Agreeably!
4) Compliment publicly, constructively criticize in private. NEVER USE EMAIL to reprimand!
5) No matter how sharp the differences, always assume that the co-worker is doing what he/she believes to be right and beneficial for the company...until there is evidence to the contrary.
6) No matter how much we disagree with one another, leave the meeting with unity of purpose.
7) Treat others as you would want to be treated. Yep, the Golden Rule!
I do not always expect corporations and businesses to follow these. I am pleasantly surprised when companies actually strive for these goals. We cannot always choose where to work, although we can improve our chances.
It is a reproach on the name of Christ when church members and leaders routinely impugn the motives of a fellow believer.
It is inexcuseable when professing believers disrespect, slander, ignore, intimidate and humiliate one another to suit their own purposes.
This describes the cult I was in as a teenager. This is why I avoid the independent churches, given the lack of accountability.

Our church had its Christmas program tonight. In addition to the choral arrangements, there was something I had never seen before.
Isaiah 9:6-7 was read-in Tagalog, Spanish, Mandarin, Portuguese, French and Assyrian. As mentioned in previous blogs, there is an Assyrian congregation in our city.
Alot of kids involved in the program, too.
Our program closed with a reading of Michael Card's Final Word:
When the Father's Wisdom wanted to communicate His love,
He spoke it in one final perfect Word.
He spoke the Incarnation and then so was born the Son.
His final word was Jesus, He needed no other one.
Spoke flesh and blood so He could bleed and make a way Divine.
And so was born the baby who would die to make it mine.

I received a sizeable bonus this month, along with a raise. The last three companies did not give me a performance evaluation or a raise. God has been good to me this year. There is one thing I desire in the next three weeks--please, Lord?
My Christmas was fun, high caloried and somewhat sedentary  It was good to finish the shopping for nieces, nephews and other family members. My father is either in HI or France with his wife and son, and I have not heard from my half-sisters or half-brothers.
An employee suddenly died last week, and his manager was at his bedside, along with his assistant manager. The landlord (a wealthy doctor) was calling the hospital while the man was in a coma; Mr Landlord was asking the managers if his employer would continue to pay rent 
The only annoyance was a friend of our uncle, who thinks that he has found the long-hidden secrets of evangelism and church growth.
Now, truth be told, I love dialogue. But when someone goes into a condescending lecture, with no interest in a TWO-WAY conversation, well...
Imagine being lectured to by a man who is not a spiritual advisor or even a friend. The guy has no sense of history, but loved to take the seat of judgment against the "church of today". He dished out his same old tirades about lack of compassion and judgmentalism, while showing no compassion, tolerance or grace.
I wandered over to the room where his daughter was discussing her job at Starbucks. I caught the joy and energy of Christmas again.
Now, if you will excuse me, I need a peppermint mocha. My 15 lb Pommie jumped on the bed at 2 am, and I could not get back to sleep

Happy New Year!
We are opening a new store this month. This has kept us busy.
The pastor spoke from Ezekiel 37 this morning. He did a good commentary on society's dryness, and the need for God's Word to bring life to a dead, empty and meaningless life. He touched on the aloneness, alienation, isolation, and descent into illicit medication among the youth.
It would have been more edifying, IMO, if he had addressed the isolation and alienation within the pews. We can always point to a decaying, unravelling society in the West; it is not always easy to admit that we in the church may like to stick to our own comfort zone and our own social clubs. We can have our get-togethers to bring together clones of ourselves, without ever truly getting our hands and feet dirty in the realities outside the church property.
Let us not be too harsh on the cubicle-dwellers and solo drivers who never get to use the diamond lanes
He went on and on about the federal and state deficit, and seems to think that it is merely "spending without regard for the future." Is that the only issue?
Is it possible that we as a church have abdicated our calling to provide for the poor, the sick, the outcast and the victims of oppression?
Is it possible that we have become a cheerleader for the American Empire? Why do some churches (including the COG I attended in the 1980s) STILL sing the Battle Hymn of the Republic?
Is it possible that we honestly believe that Caesar has an obligation to dictate our dietary choices, our medical needs, our parenting, our jobs, our families, our hobbies, our talents, our education, our property, our use of water and energy, and even our churches?
Do we cheer the mere proposition of military conscription that could take our sons, nephews, daughters, nieces, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, wives?
It is easy to talk about how we should pray for Osama bin Laden's salvation. It sure sounds spiritual. We don't have to leave our sofa or put down our Starbucks, and we can pretend we are doing battle for God. And we can mouth the same old cliches every week. However, when someone dares to refer to the historic communities of Christians in the Middle East (yes, ARAB CHRISTIANS) that need prayer and support, eyes glaze over.
Do not forget thebloody persecutions against the Assyrian Christian community. And remember, as Christians live and work under Sharia law, they are reaching Muslims with the Gospel. It may be an Arabic-speaking believer that could present the Gospel to a policeman, governor, soldier or mullah, or even OBL.

Time for a radical lifestyle change. This is preferable to having to upsize my clothing every few months. 
Time to cut back on sucrose, deep fried breaded stuff, bread, alcohol, tubers, desserts. I need to investigate some conditioning programs.
The idea of flexibily and stretching routines was always considered a tedious routine that would keep the muscles and tendons from tearing. Perhaps that is only part of it.
Lately I found something that covers joint mobility, stretching and some bodyweight exercises. I am studying and testing the concepts. Some are taken from martial arts, some come from yoga, some are carried from military strength training. By carefully subjecting your limbs and appendages to a wider range of motion, is it possible to prevent one's own muscular reflexes from inflicting injuries? That applies to the feet, ankles, wrists, elbow, hips, neck and back.

As I go through my golf practice, the motion analysis reveals alot of flaws and posture issues. Very humbing.
The high-speed camera is linked into a computer that analyzes the flight of the ball, speed, and the angles of hip rotation, shoulder tilt and many other compnents.
It was 69 F, sunny, and dry. I am headed for Texas at the end of the month for some training. I have been at my current job for more than a year, and I have been blessed abundantly.
As much as I try to avoid politics, I do get pretty annoyed by the multitude of (Christian) bloggers telling me that Christians need to vote fore an ex-preacher to save our nation.
Is this based on his questionable record as "tax-cutting" gov, or on his religious background? Do we understand his real stand on illegal immigration? The homeschoolers' should know better, but there is no reason to get our hopes up.
His pro-life record is something to behold.
It is possible to be a godly man and an incompetant ruler. It is also possible for well-meaning organizations to start out as advocates for justice, only to become drunk on political power and influence. It is good to look beyond those 24-pt fonts and flashing gifs and take a closer look.

Still practicing and taking golf lessons, working on the hips, shoulder and leg angles  Getting the hip turn, swing and contact is not easy for a complete novice, heheheh...
Rain and wind over the last few days, looking forward to my week in Texas-4 days at PDI. The company is between Waco and Austin. The weather should be sunny and warm, unlike the left coast...
Someone once said that dogs are like hippies. They lay around, eat and drink, and wanna play all day  Unlike hippies, they are loyal, and they greet you at the door when you get home from work. And they never steal my stuff. Unless it is a plate of food within reach of her paws
Dog owners, do NOT allow your doggie to eat grapes or raisins. Renal failure and a painful death can result from even a few raisins.
